After a bunch of playtesting, writing, rewriting, brainstorming, and late nights thinking about cats called Salmon, version 2 of You Meet in an Ambush is finally done ๐ŸŽ‰

Practically every single sentence of the original got revised, so it's impossible to create a full changelog. However, I can give you the highlights:

  • Basil is an ex-Courser and he's the one who recruited the heroes. This instantly gives players a common acquaintance and a reason to care about the fate of the Red Boar.
  • The tavern vignettes are distinct scenes, unrelated to Basil. They happen simultaneously around the tavern, giving players an opportunity to meet new people and explore the environment before the ambush.
  • NPCs involved in the vignettes leave the tavern once their problem is solved. This allows the heroes to clear out the civilians before the fight, making it easier for them.
  • Alec pretends he's being attacked. This makes the negotiation with Erin a little more tense, as she thinks the heroes are the ones who started the fight.
  • Villains have a new Malice ability called Flaming Bottle. This seems unimportant, but it actually triggers a reworked montage test at the end of the adventure. Speaking of which...
  • Reworked montages at the end of the adventure. There are now two possible montages after the negotiation with Erin! The Red Boar catches on fire and the heroes can (a) help save it if they are free, or (b) use this moment as an opportunity to escape the guards if they are being taken to jail.
  • Four possible endings. Since the heroes can either succeed or fail on each montage, there are now four suggested conclusions to the adventure (see the pretty diagram at the top of this post). They all come with hooks for your own custom campaign and for a tie-in with the Fall of Blackbottom.
